Kroger: Accuracy at Scale

Father and young girl shop together in a grocery aisle, with the child pointing excitedly at products on the shelves.

Some projects demand more than capability. They demand momentum.

Kroger’s biggest campaign yet required hundreds of thousands of printed signs to reach more than 2,000 stores nationwide on a single launch date. The scale and short runway made it more than a printing job. Imagine coordinating engineering, production, kitting, and fulfillment across all four facilities to get the campaign into stores.

Challenge

A national in-store launch requires large quantities of signs organized by destination and shipped on time for the same campaign. With hundreds of thousands of pieces, the work isn’t finished when presses stop.

Kroger approached Imagine with a short timeline and its biggest campaign yet. The scope spanned all four Imagine facilities, requiring coordination among engineering, production, kitting, and fulfillment, as any delay or mistake could affect subsequent steps.

Speed was crucial, but quality couldn’t be compromised. Presses kept running, while printed pieces were carefully organized for shipment, making the scale manageable without losing sight of store deliveries. Having previous familiarity with Imagine’s facilities and equipment, Kroger considered how to integrate capabilities and entrusted Imagine with the enterprise-wide campaign.

Solution

Imagine broke the job down store by store and piece by piece, turning one enormous launch into a coordinated series of production and fulfillment steps. All four facilities took part, each contributing to the campaign’s required pace and quality.

The work ran from engineering through production, kitting, and fulfillment. Presses operated around the clock. Alongside production, teams organized the printed pieces into kits for shipment, keeping each handoff connected to the next stage.

Communication and logistics were as important as print capacity: hundreds of thousands of signs had to move through the enterprise and out to stores on a shared schedule. That coordination made Imagine’s combined capacity useful to Kroger. Rather than treating the assignment as separate print orders, the teams worked toward one store launch. Every facility and role helped move the right work through the system.

Results

The campaign reached Kroger stores across the country, with shoppers seeing the work at the same time. For a project spanning more than 2,000 stores, that shared launch came from many smaller steps: producing the signs, organizing them, and moving them through fulfillment on a tight timeline.

The project showed what Kroger could draw on across Imagine’s four locations. Its scale did not eliminate the need for careful execution; it made that care even more important at every handoff. By coordinating the full job across facilities, Imagine helped bring Kroger’s largest campaign to life where it mattered: inside stores, in front of shoppers.
